Description from exhibit panel: "On April 16, 1874, Alonzo Hartman, a cow camp employee at the Los Pinos Indian Agency noticed a ragged stranger approaching. The man was Alferd Packer, the lone survivor of his ill-fated prospecting party. Agency officials, suspicious of Packer's story, quickly arrested him for the murders of his companions."
