Mrs. Helen Winifred (Ross) Wilson was born October 22, 1910, in Grand Junction, CO, to parents Robert A. and Pearl (Smith) Ross. Her twin brother, John Hugh Ross, was killed in an accident in 1931. Wilson grew up in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Grand Junction and graduated from Fruitvale High School in 1928. She attended Mesa State College (then Hoel-Ross Business College) for two years, then graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.A. in 1932. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority there. After graduation, she returned to Grand Junction where she taught English for 5 years before marrying her husband, George A. Wilson, in 1937. They made their home in Littleton, CO, then moved to Glenwood Springs, CO, in 1938. There, she dedicated much of her time to serving her community and was active in many social and volunteer organizations. She was employed as a case worker for the Department of Social Services for 15 years. She passed away in Glenwood Springs in 2010, at the age of 99.
