Richard B. "Dick" Williams was born August 24, 1911, in Grand Junction, Colorado, to father Orlo D. and mother Edna Williams. Williams attended Grand Junction High School, where he served as treasurer of the Boys League in 1926 during his sophomore year. He then attended Mesa College and the University of Colorado in Boulder. He was made an honorary member of the lettermen's C Club for his support of CU's athletic program. In high school and at Mesa College, he lettered in football, basketball, and track. He married Margaret Scott in 1940 in Grand Junction. He continued his interest in sports by serving for 25 years as public address announcer for home football games at Mesa College and local high schools, as well as rodeos in Western Colorado. He worked from 1933 until his retirement in 1976 in the abstract and title insurance business in Grand Junction, starting the Independent Abstract Co. with his father in 1933, and retiring from the Transamerica Title Insurance Co. He was past president and "Lion of the Year" of the Grand Junction Lions Club, and president of the Chamber of Commerce and Land Title Association of Colorado. He also served on the boards of the Colorado River Water Conservancy District and the Colorado Water Conservancy Board for 12 years. Williams was a member of Masonic Lodge 55, Grand Junction Consistory, and the Western Colorado Shrine Club. He was a charter member of the Bookcliff County Club and a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. He passed away in 1993 in Grand Junction, Colorado.
