Mrs. Doris Alberta (Purdy) Snyder was born June 17, 1901, in Russell, Minnesota, to parents Fredrick Stanley and Augusta Kate Langdon Purdy. She graduated high school in Marshall, MN, and married her husband, W. H. "Jack" Snyder in 1921. The Snyders moved from Minnesota to Onida, South Dakota, before making their home in Grand Junction in 1929. There, she attended Grand Junction Junior College. Her husband was former president and owner of Colorado Survault Co. and worked as Mesa County coroner for more than 25 years, while Doris worked as secretary and treasurer for the company. She also taught first aid courses throughout western Colorado, and worked as an election judge for many years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church for more than 50 years, was past state president and honorary lifelong member of the P.T.A., was past state president of the Demolay Mothers, was a member of the International Postmistress Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ladies Auxiliary at St. Mary's Hospital, the Jane Jeffersons, the Democratic Party, and Beauceant, was a member of the social organizations the Wednesday Music Club and the Bookcliff Country Club, and was past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sunshine Chapter #53. Doris passed away in 1990.
