About
Alfred Louis Gustav Nestler was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on October 15, 1899. His love of art was evident as a young boy who sketched birds, flowers, and trees in his mother's garden. His parents, Louis and Anna Nestle, recognized his artistic ability and sent him to the Kansas City Art Institute for formal training as an artist. Nestler continued his training at the St. Joseph School of Art under the tutelage of Rupert Hamilton, a noted British watercolorist. He then honed his craft with established painters in Taos, New Mexico. Mr. Nestler married Frances Marie Viets and moved to Grand Junction in 1928. He supported his family by running a house painting business and continued to improve his artistic techniques by painting murals and paintings for local churches, businesses, and public institutions. He published two books in the Walter Foster Series, Moods in OIl and Felt Pens and Color and Composition. His paintings achieved national prominence. He would eventually move to Sedona Arizona and founded La Galaria in Sedona in the late 1950's. He was married a total of three times, second wife was Olive Taylor, and third wife was Mary Ernestine Todd.

Al Nestler Once Had A Studio And Home In Grand Junction, Co. He Once Commented That He Traded His Paintings For Fruit During The Depression. He Moved To Arizona And Established Southwestern Art Gallery In 1960.
