According to census records, Laurence Earl Hoisington was born February 14, 1915, in Orange, California, to Earl M. and Bessie (Henderson) Hoisington. In the 1920, 1930, 1935, and 1940 censuses, he was living with his parents in Grand Junction, CO. According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, Hoisington attended Grand Junction High School where he led the band organization and was recognized as a gifted student. He was known to play bass, clarinet, sousaphone, and piano. Hoisington graduated from the University of Colorado in 1936 where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta social fraternity and Phi Beta Kappa academic society, and was an honor roll student. He then started to attend the University of Wisconsin in 1936, and listed his occupation as a student at the University of Wisconsin during the WWII draft in the early 1940s. He graduated with his doctorate degree in 1941. In 1942, Hoisington was located in Washington, D. C., working as a physicist at the naval ordnance laboratory. Hoisington married Frances Eunice Rumsey in Silver Spring, Maryland, in 1943. He passed away in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2001.
