Harry Launcelot Eddy was born September 1, 1906, in Marietta, Ohio, to Nathan and Virginia Eddy, and spent his youth in Grand Junction, Colorado. His younger brother is Raymond Eddy. He graduated from Grand Junction High School and Mesa College, then went on to receive his B.A. from the University of Denver and a master's degree from George Washington University in Washington, D. C. He married Mary Elizabeth Tope in Washington, D. C., in 1938. He had worked as head librarian for the American Association of Railroads before his retirement.
