About
Harold Bryant was born in Pickrell, Nebraska, in 1894. His family moved to Appleton, a small community west of Grand Junction, in 1903. Bryant graduated from Appleton High School in 1914. He went to study at the Chicago Art Institute and became a highly successful commercial artist in New York City. After serving in the First World War, he continued with commercial art, but his true love was painting scenes of cowboys, horses, cattle, and life in the American West. In 1941, Bryant became a nationally recognized western artist after his paintings were displayed at the Grand Central Art Gallery in New York City. His paintings began selling for $1,000 (equivalent to $17,000 in 2019) and were in high demand. He settled in Grand Junction and had a cabin retreat on Pinon Mesa where he could paint in solitude surrounded by natural beauty.
