Luther M. Brown was born June 12, 1890, in Fairbury, Nebraska. He came with his family to the Grand Valley, Colorado, in 1895. He attended schools in Grand Junction, Utah, and Nebraska. His family were pioneers of Mesa County. Brown married Maymie Hardin in Grand Junction in 1909. Brown and his brother, Milo Brown, operated the Brown Brothers Furniture Store on Main Street in the early 1920s. He then was associated with the Knight-Campbell Simmons and Wells Music firms out of Denver, CO. He was a skilled musician and leader in promoting music in Western Colorado. He played violin in the first Mesa College orchestra, was active in the municipal band, and in several lodge, church, and dance bands also.
