Archie Davenport Bliss was born December 28, 1888, in Grand Junction, CO, to parents Mr. and Mrs. Courtland P. Bliss, pioneers of the Grand Valley. C. P. Bliss owned one of the first mercantile stores in Grand Junction. Archie graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1906, and married his wife, Nona Alvira Smith, in 1914. Bliss was instrumental in the creation of the Park Dramatic Players club, Grand Junction's Little Theater, in 1934. He also helped to produce plays at Mesa College to raise funds for the growing school throughout the 1930s. Bliss retired from the US Postal Service in January 1957, just before his passing in March 1957, after being ill for several months. He ended his career as supervisor of the Grand Junction post office. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist church, was a talented amateur magician who taught classes to youngsters, and was a member of the IOOF.
