R. H. Bancroft married his wife, Mrs. Laura (Gibbs) Bancroft, December 25, 1891, in Claremont, Missouri. They then moved to Fairbury, Nebraska, and then to Fruita, CO, where they started the Fairbury Nursery company. In 1893 they moved to Palisade, CO, where they since resided. Mr. Bancroft worked in the real estate business. He helped establish the Palisade School District no. 19 in 1893 and was first president of the school board. Je was later elected secretary, and served in that position for 25 years. He and his wife were charter members of the Baptist church, established in 1895. He was a charter member of the Masonic Lodge, organized 1907, and of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows organized 1905. In 1924 Mr. Bancroft was appointed postmaster, and held office for 12 years until he retired in 1937 due to declining health. After, he dedicated his time to working in his orchard. The couple had four children, two of which (Ralph H. and Fern Gibbs) did not survive childhood. Their surviving children, Rowland H. Bancroft and Fairy Bancroft Ryan, were also respected Palisade residents.
