Description
Basket; Coiled; Round; Tall; Handles; Vessel/container; Handles. Mescalero Apache Basket with diamond patterns and triangular handles. The basket is tall and cylindrical, with a flat bottom. The basket has two handles, opposite each other, are woven in fishtail in a triangle shaped handle. The design is very faded, but it is a pattern of colorful diamonds. The colors include purple, orange, white, pink, and red. The diamonds are approximately 9 rows tall and each purple and orange diamond alternates with a stack of two pink, red, white, and orange diamonds. Label inside the basket stating "Mescalero Apache." The basket was oridinally from teh collection of David Frakes Day, the publisher of Great Muldoon--Ouray's first newpaper. He was an agent for the Utes in 1893. This basket was given to him by the utes.
