Description
Willow Rod Wicker Rio Grande Pueblo Basket. Large basket woven of willow rods. The bottom of the basket has rods exposed, overlaying each other and fanning out with the weft creating a circular but flat bottom. The rods continue up the basket and form loops at the top of the basket. The rods at the top of the basket alternate light and dark colors and are grouped into 5's, forming and open weft with large gaps. The ends of the rods loop around and are woven into the end of the normal wicker weft at the center of the sides. They are left open and sticking out. From the Santo Domingo, San Felipe, Laguna Villages and originating from the Rio Grande Pueblo culture.
