Historical artifact -- Specimen, Animal

Identifier:
E947
Description

Male Baird's swallowtail (Papilio bairdii) - a species of butterfly - specimen, pressed inside of an almost flat, rectangular, plastic container. There is a raised "bubble" in the center of the plastic that houses the body of the specimen.

Original label identifies the specimen as "[Male] Papilio Bairdi]" - likely a typo - and suggests that it was collected in Fruita, Colorado. The label is damaged and the sex of the specimen, while written, is slightly difficult to read.
