Historical artifact -- Specimen, Animal

Identifier:
E590
Description
Female orange sulphur (Colias eurytheme) - a species of butterfly - specimen, pressed inside of an almost flat, rectangular, plastic container. There is a raised "bubble" in the center of the plastic that houses the body of the specimen.

Original label suggests that the specimen was collected at Black Ridge, Colorado. The head of the specimen is still attached to the thorax, but, oddly enough, there is a second, very similar head loose in the container. How this happened remains unclear.
