Description
Peach Preserved With Cloves, 2.75" X 4" since 1896.
The note that Catherine Seligman sent along with the peach, dated August 29, 1973, reads:
"This is realy [really] from the past. I am sending a peach that was picked in Grand Junction before 1896. Just a little proof: my father Edward Caleb Elmer had a hardware store in Grand Junction at the time he died in February 1896 (mumps) Sometime before that date he or my mother made or aquired [acquired] this peach." The note continues to provide different facts about people in Grand Junction as proof her family was established there, as she was writing from Fresno, California.  "...California peaches just don't compare to G.J. peaches"
