Garden Hand Sprayer
Historical artifact -- Hand Sprayer
Identifier:
CU 2024.30.14
Description
Green unbranded metal hand sprayer with fabric handle for small scale agricultural use. You would fill the cylindrical basin with herbicide or insecticide dust and use the hand pump to slowly distribute it from the small nozzle as you walked. This allowed for a more localized distribution of dust as opposed to earlier models of dusters which were not efficient or accurate in dust distribution. The nozzle tip reads "PATENTNO2148726" which was issued in 1939. The basin reads "PATENT NO. 2086696" which was issued in 1937. This means the device was most likely used in the 1940's.
