Description
Ute Beaded Pouch with White Tassels and Swastika decoration. Pouch made from animal skin with tie around the top. The top is beaded with a sky blue color, and there are lines of beading from the ties to the body of the pouch where the larger beaded design begins. The ties have two teardrop shaped tassels with blue beading along the edges. The main beaded design is white with four swastikas in each corner. The center of the decoration has two triangles with several colors. On one side, the swastikas are green and the triangles are dark blue, sky blue, yellow, red, pink, green, light blue, and dark blue from outside in. There is a line of dark blue between the two triangles which point opposite each other, with their bottoms parallel to each other. On the opposite side of the pouch, the swastikas are red and the colors in the triangle follow as green, yellow, light blue, red, pink, sky blue, dark blue, and then a light blue line connecting them in the same fashion as the other side. The bottom of the bag is decorated with long white tassels with blue beading at the end of each. Collected in 1925 by Bruce Angus in Dragon, Utah, where he purchased it from a Ute tribe member while working for the Uintah Railroad as an engineer. Northern Ute.
