Description
Apache Mescalero Coiled Mixing Basket. The basket is coiled and very light tan on the inside bottom, getting darker approaching the rim. The rim is braided with a fishtail weave. The basket is decorated with a faded pattern in red, specifically one row of red weave 5 below the rim, followed by a row of tan weave, and then another row of red weave. The design is more legible on the outside of the basket and features four downward pointing triangles at the bottom of the basket. The bottom is relatively flat and the basket slopes up and out at a wide angle. The basket has dirt residue in between the weave. The basket is a part of the William Endner collection and the gift deed writes that it is an Apache/Mescalero basket-tray/mixing basket from South Central New Mexico.
