a. Letter on lined loose-leaf paper, front and back. Written in pencil. Dated September 11, 1923. Yampa, CO. Letter to Mary Maddux Greenley (Optimo, NM) from Ralph Maddux (Yampa, CO).

"Dear Mary I just got 3 letters and pictures but you did not give any dates did you think I could get out on your route and just wait till you came along. I came up here a month ago am stacking hay at $5 a day and board I got a letter from a neighbor today he said a bear broke a door in my house and broke in the cupboard and ate the bacon lard oat meal syrup and made a hell of a mess I think I will go to Denver and trade my car in on a new 1924 ford they look good to me I have a 1918 5 passenger and a good one but it don't look so nice and I have to get out and crank it I may go to Casper this winter if you are on your way looking for a home you should take a look at Moffat County goodbye from Ralph". 

b. Envelope made from white paper. Postmarked Yampa, CO, September 12, 1923, 9:30 am. Sent to "Mrs. A. R. Greenley (Mary Maddux), Optimo, New Mex.". Sent from "Ralph Maddux iel Bro[illegible] Yampa Colo.". The return address is obscured by the postmark and there are pencil scribbles over the front of the envelope.
