Description
a. Letter on blue stationery paper, front and back. Written in black ink. Dated July 21, 1925. Yampa, CO. Letter to Mary Maddux Greenley (Casper, WY) from Leona Maddux (Montrose, CO).

"Dear Mary and family, Your letter came the other day I was very glad to hear from you once again. We are still working For Starling and have been in the hills since May. We have not suffered any with the heat, in fact a sweater felt pretty comfortable. We just had a couple of real hot days. The rainy season has set in now so we'll have cool weather from now on. Ralph's just fine! He's a year old today. But he doesn't walk yet. He pulls up to things, and walks around in his swing. He never did crawl I guess because I'd never let him on the floor. He says a few words, but can make you understand what he wants. We think he's the smartest kid in the world. His daddy has him in his arms just as soon as he comes to the house and on Sundays he never goes anywhere without him. Soon as the whistle blow he's at the door ready to go meet his daddy. If you want to see Laurence, you should see Ralph he's his daddy over and over in looks, and actions. I never clean house here I just dig out in the middle so we can get throu and let the rest go. I wouldn't know how to keep house if I had ours to keep. Ralph has white curly hair. It just hangs in ringlets all over the back of his head, they don't lay on his neck but I want to cut them off and make him look like a boy but Laurence says no. I wonder if you'd be offended if I'd send Lelia some goods to make her some dresses. I have a number pieces of toile, and such, that were left from my dresses that I can't use for Ralph but would make some cute little dresses. Laurence said to send them but I thought I'd better ask you first. Nothing like that makes me mad but everyone is different. What was Edwin doing? We never hear from them only throu you. Where is Ralph and what's he doing. When you write to him again do you tell him the Von Hagen folks ask about him quite often. Do you remember Virgia Headington, they lived neighbors to you when you were kids (in Montrose) she is my neighbor now. She married a man with two grow kids. Her name's Wickersham now He's our lumber checker. Are you folks going to stay in Casper this winter".

b. Letter on blue stationery paper, front only. Written in black ink.

"We think very much of Oregon or Washington. We want to go where we can get work the year around. It's dinner time so i must close with love Leona, Laurence, and Ralph. Laurence says he'd like very much to have a picture of you and your kids. We may make you a visit on our way west, in October."

c. Envelope made from the same blue stationery as the contents of the letter. Postmarked Montrose, CO, July 26, 1925 at 11 am. Sent to Mrs. A. R. Greenley (Mary Maddux), 935 St. Mary's Street, Casper, WY. Written on the upper left corner of the front of the envelope in blue ink is "Leona" and in pencil is "ans Aug 22". Written on the back side of the envelope is an address, "A Busch 1082 E 74 St. Cleveland Ohio". The address is likely not associated with the letter and the envelope was used as scrap paper as the letter was postmarked in Montrose and signed by Leona Maddux.
