"Dear Mary, I started this, this on M. so will make another attempt to finish it. We moved to McPhee last Saturday. McPhee is a small milling town just outside of Dolores. We haven't our things from Montrose yet, and we couldn't get furnished rooms for light house keeping so we are living in a boarding house. Laurence worked Monday and yesterday but just a quitting time last night he cut his leg with the [illegible]. He says it's not very bad he doesn't think. The Dr. said it cut the muscle his leg over half into. They had to take something over twenty stitches in the muscle and three in the flesh. He never slept at all last night, and is so faint he can't hardly go. He and Sandy went down to get a pair of crutches and see Dr. and get our name in for a house. The night we stayed in Placerville, we had a flat tire, and in the morning when he went to fix it he caught his finger in the spring and masked the end of his finger and had to go to the Dr. with that. But this cut on his foot came from that. It seems we're having our share of grief. Yes, Ralph getting to be quite a boy. He weighs 14 lbs or better. But he is pretty badly spoiled. Mon 17- Laurence's leg's much better he can walk on it now as well as wearing his shoe. I talked him out of starting to work this a.m. as one day off might save a Dr. bill. An  a lot more grief. Well I simply can't think of anything as where is so many talking. Your bud & sis, Leona & Laurence and Ralph.".
