Description
Dye chart purchased at Kayenta, AZ and was made by the Kayenta Navajo Arts and Crafts [stamped on the side of the frame]
Chart depicts what types of natural materials were used to dye fabrics, specifically the yarn for weaving rugs. A small rug sample is at the center of the display with the dyed yarn connecting to the various plants that were used to create the color.
These plants include: Cliff Rose, Gamble Oak Bark, Ground Lichen, Golden Rod, Purple Bee Plant, Brigham Tea, Rabbit Brush, Afterbath Dye Water from Black Dye, Prickly Pear Cactus Fruit, Sumac Berries, Black Walnut Bark, Wild Holly Berries, Juniper root, dock canaigre root, Wild Holly Root, and Rose Hips.
