Photograph -- Black-and-White Photograph

Identifier:
2004.44.84
Description
In its first decade of existence, Montrose, Colorado, presented a bleak, desolate appearance. Water from the Uncompahgre River could irrigate only a small par tof the fields. The scene was changed dramatically when the Gunnison Tunnel was complete and water from the Gunnsion River reached the area in 1912. Photo taken about 1883.
This is a black and white photograph picturing a landscape in Montrose Colorado. In the distance are mesas and in the middle part of the photo are buildings that seem to be the construction of the beginning of a town. In the forefront of the photo is sandy ground with small plants. The sky appears to be sunny with a few clouds in it.
