The Brush News-Tribune July 26, 1956, JO ANN GUNDERSON (center), 18, of Collbran, sister of Rex Tomlinson of Brush, was crowned ‘‘Miss Atomic Energy of 1956 at the third annual Uranium Ore Producers Exposition in Grand Junction. With Miss Gunderson are her attendants, Mrs. Joan Wheefright (left) and Miss Maxine Thomas, both 19 and both of Grand Junction. Miss Gunderson is a sophomore at Mesa College. Her selection was made by a panel of 13 judges on the basis of beauty, poise, charm and personality. They appeared for the first judging in bathing suits and in formal gowns in the final event.
