Description
Vibrant Navajo wedding basket. Traditional Navajo wedding design, with a light colored, 5-point star in the center, surrounded by a dark background which meets three rows of solid red weave. After the red, there are 14 black triangles surrounding the red ring, three rows deep, pointing towards the outer rim. Gift deed notes, "'Spirit trail present. Some type of material like flour embedded between individual reeds." There are two rows of the light color at the outside and the rim is finished with a fishtail weave. The donor, Mr. Basil T. Knight was with the school district from 1923-1962 and 1967-1983, he worked with migrant school children (whose parents worked in the beet/tomato industries) from whom he acquired this basket.
