Description
"Moon of Serviceberries" or "Juneberries". Native woman watches others work in the field. A dog sits watching too, not far from her. Two other dogs in field.
Month of June, part of the "Indian Calendar" Series by Jack Roberts.
"The Serviceberry bushes bloomed in June but the blue-black berries did not ripen until August. June was the time for the women to spend long days digging edible roots such as wild onions, parsnips, and Indian potatoes, or Yampas. A great variety of roots were a part of the Indian diet and the women used an end of a deer antler for a digger." (Quote by Jack Roberts)
