Description

Black and white photograph of a mural created by Al Look for Mesa State College. The college declined to use the mural.

The photograph depicts a painted mural titled "Prehistoric Western Colorado" on a banner in the upper right corner. Below the title to the left, surrounded by a black oval frame, is a scene of prehistoric indigenous Americans processing game and creating rock art with the label "600 AD". Below and around, a scene labeled "Mammals 60000000 BC." depicts prehistoric animals and dinosaurs roaming a forest landscape on the left side of the mural that transitions to a beach scene on the right. To the right in the same scene underneath several dinosaurs on a beach is another label, "Reptiles 180000000 BC".

Written near the bottom right corner of the front of the photo in black ink is the name, "Al Look". On back of the photo in black ink is the message, "Model painting by / submitted to Mesa College as a mural / and refused." Written below this in pencil is the message, "local artist painted as example - never used".
