Description
Polychrome Native American basket, unknown provenance or origin. The basket is tightly woven and has two banded designs around the walls. The first band is 3 cm from the bottom of the basket and 2 cm wide. It features a dark diamond centered in the white band. The diamond is outlined in the same straw color as the body of the basket. The center of the diamond has a light green diamond, also outlined in the straw color. The design continues and on either side of the concentric diamonds, there are two triangles with their widest sides lining up with the edges of the band. The triangles tips point toward each other and are woven in a dark orange/rusty color. The band is outlined in a slightly darker brown weave than the rest of the body. On the first band, this design repeats the alternating diamonds and triangle six times. The top band is 2.25 cm above the first band, and the design is identical but the alternating pattern repeats seven times. The basket has a fishtail weave pattern on what remains of the rim.
