Photo of an orchard scene, location identified as Poverty Flats (later known as Vineland), taken ca. 1895. A boy and dog stand in the center of the frame, with two men to the right of the boy under the shade of a tree. The men are talking to each other and one is holding a shovel. The boy has been identified as Phil Bower, the dog's name is Shep, and the two men are identified as C. Bower and N. J. Krusen.A piece of paper attached to the top of the photo has the following typed caption: "Vineland in about 1895 / Vineland was called Poverty Flats in early days." Written on the back of the photo in blue ink is the message, "Phil Bower & Shep / C. Bower / N. J. Krusen / Poverty Flats (Vineland) / Palisade Colorado / about 1895".
