Description
Photo of an orchard scene, location identified as Poverty Flats (later known as Vineland), taken ca. 1895. A boy and dog stand in the center of the frame, with two men to the right of the boy under the shade of a tree. The men are talking to each other and one is holding a shovel. The boy has been identified as Phil Bower, the dog's name is Shep, and the two men are identified as C. Bower and N. J. Krusen. 

A piece of paper attached to the top of the photo has the following typed caption: "Vineland in about 1895 / Vineland was called Poverty Flats in early days." Written on the back of the photo in blue ink is the message, "Phil Bower & Shep / C. Bower / N. J. Krusen / Poverty Flats (Vineland) / Palisade Colorado / about 1895".
