Farm fields and mountains, the cliffs at the mouth of De Beque Canyon, are visible in the distant background. This bridge was a swinging bridge built in 1904, and cost $2,700 to construct (Palisade History, Vol. 1 pp. 9-10).A piece of paper attached to the bottom of the photo has the following typed caption: "Ferry and first bridge across Colorado River from East end of 4th St. to Vineland. This bridge was a swinging bridge.". Written on the back of the photo in pencil is another description that reads, "First Bridge at Palisade / Built 19[illegible] where [illegible] / Bridge now Stands".
