Description
Postcard snapshot photograph of an excavator adding dirt to a large dirt pile visible in the far right of the frame. The scene has been identified as the digging of the High Line Canal, circa 1913. A sign attached to the side of the excavator reads, "Fred M. Crane Company / Omaha / Excavator No. 9". Approximately 10 unidentified men and boys stand on the near side of the excavator and dirt pile, talking in groups amongst themselves. Several more unidentified people are visible between the excavator and the dirt in the distance. The Bookcliffs and the Mesa are visible in the distant background. 

Attached to the front of the photo is a piece of paper with the following typewritten caption: "Digging High Line Canal". Written on the back of the postcard in blue ink is the message, "Digging the Highline Canal / northeast of Palisade about / 1913. / Eyer".
