Description
Snapshot photograph of the entrance to a tunnel in the side of a hill. Two horse-drawn carts are parked on the road leading into the tunnel behind a wooden fence that crosses the road. Inside the fence, approximately 8 unidentified people stand on the road looking into the tunnel. One of the people is on a bicycle. Carved into the keystone of the tunnel entrance is the inscription, "USRS 1914". The location is identified as the West Portal Tunnel #3, photo taken circa 1915. 

Attached to the front of the photograph is a piece of paper with the following typed caption: "West Portal #3 in 1915". 

Written on the back of the photo in blue ink is the message, "West portal of Tunnel #3, about 1915. Asmussen".
