Identifier:
1979.102.2
Description
A lidded box; made of a dark wood with decorative trimmings along the bottom. The lid of aforementioned box hosts a knob made of white porcelain with gold accents.
The box contains a porcelain teapot (1979.102.1) and a letter which documents the history of the teapot and its accompanying box. Said letter contains a map illustrating the aforementioned objects journey to and across the United States.
Evelyn carried the box in its respective teapot when the couple moved to Walsenburg, CO, then to Grand Junction, CO in 1886, then to Ithaca, NY in 1921. The teapot and box would be passed down to their daughter Helen Canon, who, upon retiring to Santa Barbara, CA, would give it to her close friend Carolyn Morton. Carolyn would later donate it to the Museum of the West, wherein David Sundial would carry the box and teapot by jet from Santa Barbara, CA to its current place at the Museum of the West, Grand Junction, Co.
